Big Dress, Big Dreams: How to Save for the Perfect Prom Gown
Nov 15th 2013
Prom is a huge expense, especially when you’re working the most babysitting jobs you can and still have time for your homework. Saving where you can is really important when you’re trying to buy the dress of your dreams, so we have some tips on how you can start stashing away your money for a successful prom 2014!
- Start by saving 10% of your paycheck weekly, if it’s possible to do so. If you’re making $20 a week when you babysit the neighbors, you’ll be saving $2 from that paycheck towards your prom dress. It may not seem like a lot, but $2 adds up after a while.
- Stop for coffee on your way to school? Take a thermos from your house to go on your way.
- Buying your school lunch may seem like it doesn’t make much of a difference, but taking your lunch at least two days a week can help you cut back and save money for prom.
- Instead of going out to the movies on the weekend, have a movie night in with your friends. Plus – you can wear your pajamas to this movie night and it will be cheaper!
- Have some old clothes lying around? Sell them to a consignment store for some extra cash.
- Perhaps you’re an artist and have some great paintings lying you’ve considered selling. Put them up for sale on Facebook or another craft website to help you stash a little more money away for prom.
- Instead of going out to eat with your boyfriend or friends, stay in and make dinner for a few nights.
