It’s the Season of Giving and Volunteering
Nov 23rd 2011
The holiday season is all about giving to those in need. Over the holiday break, take last year’s beauty pageant gown out of the closet, and start volunteering to help those in need. Here are some ways pageant contestants can give back during the holidays.
- Soup kitchens are usually in need of help, especially during the holidays. If for one reason or another, you can’t volunteer, reach out to your local soup kitchen and find out if they need donations. Contact a local soup kitchen to learn about opportunities near you.
- During the holiday season, you can see the signature red kettles of the Salvation Army outside of grocery stores, malls and other stores. Take a few hours out of your day and volunteer to ring the kettle bells to raise money for the Salvation Army. Each year, the money raised is used to help families in need. Contact your local Salvation Army to learn more about ringing the kettle bell.
- In addition to their red kettles, every year the Salvation Army’s Angel Trees can be found in an assortment of stores. Choose a child or two from an Angel Tree, and improve their holiday, by buying and donating a gift they’re asking Santa for.
- Even animals need love and care during the holidays. Volunteer at an animal shelter, and give animals that much needed love. Contact an animal shelter near you to learn more about volunteering and other ways you can help.
- Be creative and organize an event to raise money and awareness for a cause you’re passionate about!
