October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Oct 8th 2010

Every once in a while it's a good idea to think about a serious issue. That's why Promheadquarters is reminding you that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As teenage girls, breast cancer might be one of the furthest things from your mind. But it's something that you really should think about. Breast cancer is less common among women under 40, but it still happens. One of the most important things you can do is learn how to properly perform a breast self-exam.

Except for some types of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in women. Young women that are diagnosed often experience a more aggressive cancer and a lower chance of survival. That's why it's imperative that you engage in practices that can help with early detection of the disease. Breast tissue isn't as thick when you're younger, so that can make diagnosis of breast cancer difficult. Young women should learn how to do a breast self-exam by the time they're 20. This ensures that you become familiar with how your breasts look and feel— that will make it easier for you to notice any changes down the line.

Promheadquarters wants to wish you a healthy and happy October!
