Going to prom can be expensive: from the prom dresses, to the shoes, and right down to the last minor details in making your day even more special.  So why not save money where you can? With our fun and easy DIY Salon-worthy manicure, you can pinch a penny and not sacrifice your style!

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Fingernail clippers
  • File
  • Nail Buff
  • Cuticle stick
  • Cuticle trimmer
  • Vaseline
  • Lotion
  • Coconut Oil
  • Sugar
  • Nail Polish (top coat, base coat, and the color of your choice)
  1. Start by trimming your nails to manageable length.
  2. Next, file the edges of your nails so they are smooth.
  3. Buff the tops of your nails to get out any ridges, which will make it easier to paint.
  4. Next, soak your nails in warm water for five minutes. After you’re done soaking, clean them off with a nail brush and soap.
  5. After you’ve cleaned and dried your nails, apply a small amount of Vaseline to your cuticles. This will help soften them.
  6. Next, push your cuticles back with your cuticle stick then trim them with the cuticle trimmer. Make sure not to get too close to the skin on your finger.
  7. After you’re done trimming your cuticles, combine the coconut oil and sugar in a bowl and rub it on your hands to exfoliate.
  8. Wash the coconut oil/sugar mixture off, and then apply a generous amount of lotion to your hands.
  9. After you’ve rubbed the lotion in, apply the base coat to your nails.
  10. Once the base coat has dried, apply two coats of your favorite nail polish. Let sit until dry.
  11. Lastly, add the top coat. This will seal in your color and protect your manicure!
