Ways to Avoid Pageant Stress
Jul 22nd 2011
Sure, beauty pageants are fun, but they can add stress to the lives of everyone involved. Thankfully, there are ways to overcome pageant stress.
It’s never good when the person competing in a beauty pageant is stressed, but if the person advising them in the pageant is also stressed it can add extra complications to an already complicated day. Here are some things parents, family members, and coaches can do to relax on the day of a pageant.
- Don’t wait until the last minute. The night before leaving for a pageant, everything you need to take should be packed including the pageant dress, and either loaded into the car or waiting by the door.
- Always have an extra supply of everything. This includes make-up, shoes, nylons, and any other helpful items.
- Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before. If you’re tired, you’ll also be cranky.
- You can also avoid crankiness by having plenty to eat and drink. If you can’t eat a big breakfast, keep some snacks and water close at hand.
- Keep a to-do list. Make a list a week or two before a pageant. Having everything written down will help you remember everything that needs to be done on or before the day of a pageant.
It’s no fun to compete in a beauty pageant with a bad case of nerves. Take a deep breath, read these tips and relax.
- Get a good night’s sleep the night before pageants.
- When you’re stressed out you tend to breathe more quickly. Closing your eyes and taking a few shallow breaths will physically calm your body down.
- Get some fresh air by taking a short walk outside. It doesn’t help your stress level if you’re cooped up inside all day.
- Read a few jokes or watch a funny video. Laughing lowers tension in your body and improves your blood flow.
- Keep a pageant journal. Every time you’re feeling stressed or nervous, write about it in a journal. Sometimes to relax all you have to do is write about why you’re feeling stressed.
Always remember to smile and hold your shoulders back when you’re on stage! Those are two things judges make a note of with every contestant. What are some of the things you do to help you relax before pageants?
